Etymology
From -en- + sk -ský. In Proto-Slavic sla-pro *-ę *ę-stems, the nasal vowel ę cleared into en (the nasal element became explicit) when followed by a suffix beginning with a vowel due to the law of open syllables. See also the Usage notes at sla-pro *-ьce. Also compare with forms like sk dievča → sk dievčence.
