From lb gmh porte, from northern lb goh porta, from lb la porta. Cognate with Ripuarian gmw-cfr Pooz, de Pforte, nl poort. The expected form is lb Puert, which is indeed found dialectally in several areas (including the capital). lb Paart could be a backformation from the diminutive lb Päertchen. Otherwise it would require a gmh *parte.
