From lb gmh spiegel, from lb goh spiagal, from lb la spēculum. Cognate with de Spiegel, nl spiegel. The expected Luxembourgish form would be lb *Spill (like lb Zill from gmh ziegel). The form lb Spigel is probably based on a variant gmh *spigel, which is also implied by several Low and gmw-cfr - dialect forms. To this compare the nl - doublets nl richel, nl regel and nl tichel, nl tegel, respectively from la rēgula and la tēgula.
