arial -arial
English
Etymology
Derived from the word en aerial, introduced as a trademark by Monotype.Omagari Toshi 身近な書体:Arial https://tosche.net/blog/arial tosche.net 03 September 2012 Familiar font: Arial そこでMonotypeはaerialからeを抜いてArialとしました(いくら元の単語がaerialとはいえeが抜けると同じ発音にはならないので、エアリアルもまた不正解となります)。 Monotype dropped the "e" from "aerial" to create "Arial" (though even though the original word was aerial, it wouldn't be pronounced the same without the "e", so "aerial" would also be incorrect). https://web.archive.org/web/20260514234352/https://www.tosche.net/blog/arial 14 May 2026
