In the tens of thousands of these documented so far—across North Arabian, South Arabian and Nabataean scripts—rb is never used as an epithet of the old gods and the verb brk "to bless" is virtually absent from invocations in the pre‐monotheistic period. Both appear to be part of the stock of monotheistic vocabulary borrowed into Sabaic from Hebrew and Aramaic in the fourth century CE, following the Ḥimyarite adoption of Jewish‐inspired monotheism.
