Etymology
fi kivi<qq:plural stem><t:rock, stone> sto stö, literally meaning rocky ground. The surname is from farm names, common throughout western Finland, but also adopted during the Fennicization of surnames in the early 20th century. The name of the district of Vantaa is literal; the area was unsettled until fairly recently, because the land could not be farmed on.
