Perhaps from a given name like vot *Savvokka, vot *Savvikka (perhaps a diminutive of vot ru Савва) with the suffix vot lõ la, or later folk-etymologically associated with it from an earlier form vot Savvičülä (from vot savvi clay + vot čülä village). Has also been compared with fi savakko.38
