Etymology
First attested as SlijckEwick in 1573. Derived from nl slijk soggy clay or peat, alluvial soil and a compound of nl odt a river, current and nl wijk settlement, village. The euuic silec mentioned in 855 has been interpreted by some to refer to the settlement, but it is unlikely that this is the case. Compare nl Slijkwell.
