Dutch
Etymology
Potentially attested as northanheri in 918-948, attested with certainty as normaer in 1343-1344. Potentially a compound of nl dum nort north-, northern and dum meer lake. It is possible, however, that the toponym is actually a reinterpretation of a compound of odt north north-, northern and odt heri sandy ridge.
