Etymology
From de gmh gehœre, from de goh *gihōra (attested as acc. sg. goh kehorun). Equivalent to de ge hören; compare nl gehoor. This was a less common byform of gmh gehœrde, from goh gihōrida, itself cognate with odt *gehōrtha (attested as odt gehortoir, error for dat. sg. odt gehorton) and osx gihōritha. All of these words were originally feminines, but became neuter by analogy with collectives in de ge- (first attested in gmh gehœrde alongside the feminine).
