German
Etymology
From de Block Partei. Refers to the so-called Antifascist-Democratic Bloc, which all legalized parties in the Soviet zone of occupation had to join immediately after their foundation in 1945. Accordingly, the ruling SED was strictly a de Blockpartei too, but the term was soon restricted to the other bloc members.
