en 1980 AA Book of British Villages Drive Publications Ltd 159 Slate has been quarried on Easdale Island since the 16th century at least, and today the village of Easdale still has signs of its former industry. It is split into two parts - Easdale on the island itself, and Ellanbeich on the neighbouring island of Seil, across the narrow Easdale Sound. Today, Ellanbeich is a quiet, neatly laid-out community beneath the crags of Dun More.
