Etymology 2
(Noord-Brabant) First attested as Hofstad in 1838-1857. Derived from nl hofstad farmstead, homestead.
(Utrecht) Derived from the toponym Westrummerhofstad (a former village), a compound of the toponym Westrum (derived in turn from nl dum wester western, west- and dum heem home, settlement) and dum hovestat homestead. As the neighbourhood is located in the southeast of Houten, it was decided to drop the element Westrummer.
