Etymology
From de gmh vorht, gmh vorhte, from de goh forhta, goh forahta, from de gem-pro *furhtō fear, from de ine-pro *pr̥k- to fear. The modern vowel -u- is due to influence by the related verb de fürchten. Cognate with obsolete nl vrucht (still in nl godsvrucht), gml vruchte. Also closely related with en fright, though this is from a different stem (gem-pro *furhtį̄).
