Dutch
Etymology
First attested as in den lande van accoy in 1305. Compound of an unclear first element of non-Germanic origin and nl ooi land next to water. The first element might be derived from nl Akko Acre as a reference to the Crusades. The interpretation of the first element as nl dum Akke a personal name is incorrect.
