lt
Suffix
lt suffix -ai̇̃ adverb-forming suffixes comparative -aũ superlative -áusiai
forms adverbs from adjectives: -ly
lt geras gerai good well
lt sėkmingas sėkmingai successful successfully
Usage notes
Palatalizes the final root consonant (i.e. forms lt -iai) with adjectives in lt -us. In particular, with adjectives in lt -dus and lt -tus, their palatalization forms lt -džiai and lt -čiai, such as in the cases of lt saldus saldžiai and lt absoliutus absoliučiai. Other occurrences of lt -iai, e.g. lt seniai, are irregular.
In some cases, especially adjectives in lt -ingas and lt -iškas, the suffix is unstressed, and the resultant adverb follows the stress paradigm of the root adjective, although the comparative forms still follow the stress provided here.
