-istää
Finnish
Etymology
Formally fi -inen -ise- taa, i.e. extracted from verbs originally formed by the suffix fi -taa from adjectives ending in fi -inen -inen : -ise- (or other nouns ending in s). This reanalysis has likely been further supported by verbs such as fi altistaa, fi kaunistaa, fi tiivistää, fi valmistaa, all fi -taa verbs derived from adjectives which show fi -is even in the nominative.
