Luxembourgish
Etymology
Deverbal from lb gmh *grippen, northern form of gmh gripfen, from lb gem-pro *gripjaną (whence also en grip), intensive form of gem-pro *grīpaną (whence lb gräifen). Alternatively from lb gmh *grappen (see the iterative gmh grappeln), which is cognate with de grabbeln, nl grabben, nl grabbelen, en grab. However, the latter would regularly yield a long vowel in Luxembourgish. Compare also lb grapsen, de grapschen.
