Finnish
Etymology
From fi hyvä good (perhaps through a given name, compare the name of the village fi Hyvikkälä in Janakkala) with the toponym suffix fi nka. The long vowel has been generalized by analogy from the locative forms, which often have a long vowel in the local Uusimaa dialects (fi *Hyvinkä > fi *Hyvinkääl).
