Etymology
de :inh gmh:kopf<ety:inh<goh:kopf<ety:inh<gmw-pro:*kopp>>>>
From de gmh kopf drinking vessel, from de goh kopf, goh chopf, goh kupf mug, bowl, head, from de gmw-pro *kopp, from de gem-pro *kuppaz round object, bowl, crown of the head, from de ine-pro *gew- to turn, bend, arch, curve.
Cognate with nds-de Kopp head, nl kop head, stq Kop head, yi קאָפּ head, en cop the crown (of the head); the head.
Alternatively, from or influenced by de la-lat cuppa, probably a form of de la cūpa tub from de ine-pro *kewp- a hollow, related to en cup, although the form and gender make this derivation less likely.
