Meiw Luxembourgish Etymology Probably from early modern lb de Möwe Möwe, Mewe, from lb gml mêwe, from lb osx mēu, from lb gmw-pro *maiwī, from lb gem-pro *maiwaz. Alternatively as a dialectal word through lb dum mewe from the same Proto-Germanic source. The bird migrates southwards along the Rhine, Moselle, and Meuse, sometimes reaching Luxembourgish territory. Cognate with nl meeuw, en mew, is mávur.
