Livonian
Etymology
Historically Pudteraggen – Latvian lv Pitrags, Livonian liv Pitrõg. According to V. Kiprasky this term might be a compound of liv põ’ddõrz aigā moose, elk coast, edge and ⟨u⟩ in 16th century writing could reflect Latvian pronunciation of the term. In Livonian itself a shift õ > ü > i could have taken place. This is not without problems, however, as such a shift has taken place in the western dialect of Livonian, however, Pitrags is located within the area of the eastern dialect.Kersti Boiko, Ziemeļkurzemes piekrastes lībiešu ciemu vietvārdi in Kersti Boiko's Lībieši – rakstu krājums, page 220
