Etymology
nb non Skotland, from non Skota of the Scots, the genitive plural of non skotr Scot, and non land land, country; literally “land of the Scots”. The ethnonym non skotr has been compared with Old or Middle Irish sga scott Irishman and may be an early borrowing from it, though the connection is uncertain.
