Dutch
Etymology
First attested as nemus quod vulgo dicitur li Graite in 1250. Compound of nl graat hill ridge, elevated place and nl heide heath, heathland. The use of la nemus forest, wood in the oldest attestation suggests that the area around the hamlet used to be a woodland before gradually degenerating into heathland.
