Named after either Louis Marquis (one of the first colonists of the region), Louis-Antoine Proulx (vicar of Rivière-du-Loup) or Louis-Nicolas Bernier (an abbot).
Ha! Ha!, from fr ha-ha obstacle which suddenly interrupts a path, is said by the Commission de toponymie to refer to nearby Lake Témiscouata.
