Etymology
de :bor gml:<alt:*juchten><ety:der<ru:юфть>> + the 17th century
de trk ira
17th century, de gml *juchten 1, gml juften (16th c.), from de ru юфть, also ru юхть, which see for more.
The ch-form follows the Russian variant with ru х -, but was likely reinforced by the native Low German variation between gml -ft- and gml -cht-. Similarly, the final de -en can be due to the Russian adjective ru юфтяной of yuft and/or the Germanic suffix de -en made of; compare de juchten.
