German
Etymology
From de gmh briz (14th c.). This late and singular attestation allows no certainty about the quality of the vowel or the final alveolar. Origin de 1. Possibly related with gem-pro *breustą breast or gem-pro *breutaną to crush. Compare also en brisket, whose -k- does not fit with the German form, however. da brissel, sv bräss thymus are probably from German.
