Scottish Gaelic
Etymology
gd ine-pro *ǵews-
Metathetic form of gd Aonghas, from gd mga Aengus, mga Oengus, from gd sga Oíngus, from sga oín one, from gd cel-pro *oinos, from gd ine-pro *óynos single, one. The etymology of the second element is disputed; most likely it is sga gus strength, vigour, from gd cel-pro *gustu-, or it may be from gd cel-pro *gus- choose, from gd ine-pro *ǵews- to choose.
