Usage notes
Unlike en cow, the German singular is not used for bulls or calves. The plural de Kühe may at times be used generically when gender and age are not known (as when seeing a herd from afar) or irrelevant (as when speaking of the species as such). However, the word de Rind Rinder is more common for this, and only it would normally be used when bulls and calves are visibly included.
