docht
German
Etymology
From de gmh tāht, from de goh tāht, from de gem-pro *þanhtu-/*þæhta- thread, perhaps from de ine-pro *tek- to weave.
Cognate with non þáttr, for which reason the onset t- is an irregular hardening (compare de tausend). The modern form is not inherited from literary Middle High German, but from the vernaculars. It has d- due to dialectal High German, and Low German influence (compare gml - de dacht); the vocalism is due to the common dialectal development -ā- → -ō- (compare de Odem).
