Usage notes
The word is similar to, but not entirely synonymous with de Nationalität. de Staatsbürgerschaft means the citizenship of a state, i.e. the possession of a passport, whereas de Nationalität means the affiliation with a nation. For example, nationals who live under foreign occupation, continue to have their own nation's de Nationalität, but may have the occupying country's de Staatsbürgerschaft.
