Luxembourgish
Etymology
From lb goh sprozzo, from lb gem-pro *sprutô. Cognate with de Sprosse, nl sport, is sproti.
The plural lb Sprëss was built by analogy with lb Tratt > lb Trëtt, which has underlying gmh -i-. It must have been formed after the merger of both phonemes (which seems fairly recent, though at least 18th c.). The de Luxemburger Wörterbuch still attests the older (albeit equally analogous) form lb Spräss.
