Pronunciation
Suffix
suffix
A non-past honorific informal polite style suffix expressing declarative, interrogative, imperative, and suggestive moods depending on context.
ko 어머니-께서 지금 집-에 안 계세요. Mother is not home right now.
ko 안녕하세요? Hello. Have you been in peace?
ko 여기-서-는 담배 피우지 마세요. Do not smoke here, please.
Usage notes
As the suffix starts with ㅅ, it causes the root ㄹ to elide, e.g. ko 우세요 from ko 울다
Sometimes to avoid confusion with imperative mood, ko -셔요 can be used instead.
