Hittite
hit
Etymology
hit :inh ine-ana-pro:<alt:*-ódr̥><unc:1><ety:inh<ine-pro:<alt:*-ótr̥>>> 1
hit Disputed. According to Kloekhorst, from hit ine-ana-pro *-ódr̥, from hit ine-pro *-ó-tr̥. Kloekhorst argues that the pre-form ine-ana-pro *-ódr̥ yielded pre-Hittite */-ā́dr/, which itself evolved into /-ā́tr/ by analogy with the /-t-/ of the oblique stem. Other linguists, however, such as Melchert, derive the suffix from hit ine-pro *-éh₂tr̥.262
