Etymology
scn. From scn roa-gis Daiduni/roa-gis Dadù, supposedly derived from an unattested scn la-vul *Aidon(em) – from which are derived it Aidone and scn Aiduni – leading often to a scn grc - source referring to grc ᾍδης or
grc Ἄδωνις. The initial ⟨D⟩ could have yielded because of a now lost liquid article scn l' the placed in front of the toponym, then eventually hypercorrected by the non-Sicilian speakers. Cf. the demonym la Aedui, for more. Compare it Aidone.
