Etymology
From la xil - xil *Doukliā, from xil *dōkl- hiding place, shelter, from la ine-pro *dhoukl- dark, hidden, hiding place. This is ultimately derived from the root ine-pro *dheu- to whirl, to smoke, extended with the formans ine-pro *-k-. The name likely refers to the city's secluded location, geographically "hidden" by deep river canyons and surrounding mountains. Cognates include sa सन्धुक्षते sam-dhukṣatē fans, ignites, enlivens, lt dvėkti to breathe, gasp, goh tougan dark, hidden, and lv dūkans dark-colored.
