Etymology
First attested as limmail in 1230-1236. Perhaps a compound of nl odt *lin flexible and odt male sack, area with low elevation, swampy land. Unlikely to be derived from a compound of gem-pro *hliþa- slope, incline and gem-pro *maþla moot, gathering place. Formerly an independent village.
