Etymology
From ast ML. Gauzon, probably from a Germanic root ast gem-pro *gaud-, another theory suggest it's derived from ast la gaudium. Some have also connected the name to the Goths, as there is evidence of a Visigothic castle in the municipality, but the Medieval forms contradict this theory.
