Etymology
From de gmh sant, from de goh sant, from de gmw-pro *samd *sand, *samd, from de gem-pro *samdaz *sandaz, *samdaz.
The forms with -n- are due to early assimilation. The more original form with -m- is attested in gmh sampt sambt, sampt, which survives in some bar - dialects and in yi זאַמד. Further cognate with nl zand, nds Sand, en sand, da sand.
