English
Etymology
Borrowed from en nl Leusden.
Proper noun
en town/and/municipality p/Utrecht c/Netherlands.
Dutch
Etymology
First attested as lisiduna in 777. Etymology nl 1. One hypothesis proposes a derivation from gem-pro *lis furrow suffixed with the collectivising suffix gem-pro *-iþi; this etymology, however, runs into phonological difficulties. Compare nl Huisduinen, nl Leesten, nl Lieshout, nl Lisse, nl Loosduinen, fr Lesdain and fr Lesdins.
