օղ -ող Old Armenian Alternative forms xcl -աւղ xcl -ող Etymology The original spelling is xcl -աւղ, from xcl ine-pro *-tlo-, a thematic form of the ine-pro *-tel- suffix, with a preceding *-ā or *-ə. Compare xcl ծնօղ from Proto-Indo-European ine-pro *ǵenətlo-. Cognate with sla-pro *-teľь. The spelling xcl -ող is either an early monophthongized version of xcl -աւղ or has another origin, perhaps xcl ine-pro *-olo-, ine-pro *olā-; compare the ending of Ancient Greek grc μαινόλης, grc φαινόλης.
