halla hallá hälla hålla hallå ħalla hällä
Finnish
Etymology
From fi halla. The surname is partly from (mainly northern Finnish) place names referring to crop failures, and it has also been adopted during the Fennicization of surnames in the early 20th century. The oldest records of the surname could also derive from a Germanic origin, perhaps the same names that could be behind fi Hallila and fi Halonen. The given name is probably inspired by names like fi Ella, fi Milla, fi Salla on the one hand and fi Hanna on the other.
