ilium -ilium
English
Etymology
en la Īlium, from en grc Ἴ̄λιον. Metrical evidence from the Iliad and the Odyssey suggests that the name grc Ἴλιον formerly began with a digamma: grc Ϝίλιον. Compare hit 𒃾𒇻𒊭 Wi-lu-ša Wilusa, usually identified with Troy, and en hit 𒌑𒂊𒂖𒇻𒍑 pasture, meadow wellu-š, from en ine-pro *wólnus meadow, pasture. Cognate with en wold. en Ili- -um.
