German

de Pförtchen hypercorrect
Etymology
From de nds Futtje. Possibly from nds futt at once, directly, cognate of High German de fort (cf. de sofort). The form de Förtchen is probably based on this interpretation, but it is also plausible because the pastries are baked in batches and then directly eaten. Alternatively it could be related with nl vod rag, lap, flabby thing. Compare especially obsolete nl vadde flabby biscuit/scone.
