Etymology
en, but see en Lindisfarne. Recorded by Bede (c. 750) as ang Farne. Possibly from en ang farena, genitive plural of ang fara traveller. Allen Mawer (1920) and Richard Coates (2000) proposed derivation from en sga fearann territory.
