Finnish
Etymology
From fi urj-fin-pro *-icin. Related to et -si and liv -ž. Probably originally an instructive plural form of urj-fin-pro *-inën (fi -inen), at least in the non-temporal sense.
Suffix
adverb
Forms temporal distributive adverbs.
fi aamu morning aamuisin in the mornings
fi maanantai Monday maanantaisin on Mondays
fi kesä summer kesäisin in the summers
Used to form some adverbs.
fi väki väkisin
Usage notes
fi -isin adverbs are generally considered to be derived from plural stems, but it is likely that the fi -i- was always part of the suffix, as with fi -itse.
