Etymology
From en enm Albion, from en la Albiōn, an Ancient Gallo-Latin name for Britain (wlm Albbu, sga Albu), from en cel-pro *Albiū, ultimately from en ine-pro *albʰós white, whence also la albus white and grc ἀλφός whiteness, white leprosy.n 2698484607 The primary meaning of the Common Celtic word is "upper world" (as opposed to underworld), with semasiological development similar to e.g. ru свет world; light.
It is often hypothesised that the Romans took it as connected with la albus white, in reference to the white cliffs of Dover.
