From tr ota جنوه Cenova, from tr it Genova directly and via tr fa جنوآ Jenoâ, from tr la Genua, as the city was known by the ancient Ligurians; probably from the tr xlg - word for “knee”, from tr ine-pro *ǵnéwo- knee, a thematic derivative of tr ine-pro *ǵónu, in this sense “angle”, from its geographical position.
