Finnish
Etymology
fi mynä- ma mä nominal. fi mäki hill has later been introduced folk-etymologically through the inflected forms. The origin of the root is fi 1, but related to fi Mynäjärvi, the name of a nearby lake (whence the name of the nearby river fi Mynäjoki). 1567 as fi Mynemedh; this indicates that the name was originally in the plural (fi *Mynämät). The genitive form fi *Mynämäẟen > fi Mynämäen then served as the reason to introduce fi mäki (genitive fi mäen). The root is found nowhere else in Finland, which is indicative of a loan; thus, according to Heikkilä, it could have been borrowed in the 12th century from Early fi gmh münech monk (> fi *Mynelahti monk('s) bay > fi *Mynämät).fi Heikkilä Mikko Kuka oli herra Heinäricki? – piispa Henrikin arvoitus 2016 Tampere University Press 978-952-03-0305-1 77–85
