Norwegian Bokmål
Svarka no
Etymology
Ultimately nb 1. Peter Andreas Munch connected the name with a reconstructed verb *svirka, corresponding to Proto-Germanic gem-pro *swerkaną to darken, become obscured, reflected in Old English ang sweorcan to become dark, be obscured. If this explanation is correct, the river name would have meant approximately “the dark one”.
